Here's an image of Westmoreland Coal Holdings subsidiary Prairie Mines & Royalty Ltd #6973 making a run with approximately 20 lignite coal loads from the mine to the Poplar River Generating Station; about 20 KM south of the mine and just to the east of the town of Coronach. I understand four round trips a day are made. There are 2 active pits at the mine providing coal to two operating units at the Poplar River station. This is the longest privately owned track in western Canada, but with the current coal contract up in 2029. It is reported Saskatchewan wants out of the coal business by 2030. Then what? The PRMX SD40-2 was once Ontario Northland 1731 !!
