It was only a matter of weeks before the Sinter plant in Wawa, the town's chief employer, shut down for good. From the plant we see WC 6506, 3012, 6655 (SD45) and 6604 coming down off the Michipicoten Sub to the SOO sub at Hawk Jct's station. Pollution at the plant was extremely damaging to a narrow but lengthy band of forest land which was in the path of the winds. Economics dictated the plant shut down mid 1998 and the track all removed by 2000. Wawa really doesn't seem to have recovered.
