An eastbound blasts by the historic Galt station with at the time, a common sd40-2 in the lead. It's been 50 years since the first SD40-2' rolled off the assembly lines in Lagrange, January 1972, and at the time of this photo CP still had hundreds in active service. Now it's only a few dozen. The time is 1401. The next train would roll by at 1416 and it was 5915 east with another CP and SOO SD for power. These were glory days and I knew to capture everything I could and enjoy it!

  1. I think the Galt was busier back then too.

  2. Oh yeah, it was… just look at the locals alone: Ham Turn, London Pickup, Galt job (two shifts), TK12/TK21 in Woodstock, plus the mainline automotive trains alone were 127, 129 ,137, 139 and that’s just the westbounds, which are all combined into one train now (137 was 147) plus the manifests and intermodals.

They went from about 10-15 mainline trains each way plus locals to 3-4 total.

  3. Yeah plenty more trains…it’s really sad. They had a couple WB intermodals (153 and 159) plus all the 240 series eastbound and westbound manifests.
