Another one of those days when the cloud and fog have rolled in off of Georgian Bay. Didn't really matter. I would have been shooting right into the sun if it was out. CP 5796, 5535 and 5921 are seen northbound past the old Parry Sound station on a dull but very humid afternoon. I've always liked this photo because of the Parry Sound station sign. It now hangs proudly in my garage.

  1. Good times in Parry Sound ! Wonderful image !

  2. Thank you, Aitch: Parry Sound was always a welcome place for Good Times.:o)

  3. You’re a lucky son of a gun! How’d you manage to get that sign Arnold?

  4. A very kind station agent, Jimmy Bell. I talked to him whenever I went up there and he was always accommodating.
One day as myself and Sidekick were sitting in the office with him, we mentioned we had to get going as it was a long drive back.
He told us to wait for a couple of minutes as he “had something for us”. And he hauls this sign into the station!!! I asked about why he did not take it for himself, and he mentioned there was still another one and he was going to claim it. His time as an agent was going to be up soon, and he was retiring, so he was taking some “souvenirs”.
Unfortunately, cancer claimed Jimmy before he claimed his sign.
One heck of a nice guy. I miss him.

  5. When railroading had a human side, and the trains were magical. I got to speak to a few operators there, and they were all helpful about anything coming. Sad how times have changed.

  6. Oh yu are so right. It was like going to visit friends.
