The track is barely visible as CN 589 passes through the small town of Dalkeith at the usual snails pace. The entire 20 mile long CN Vankleek Spur is 10 mph max, so just to get from Glen Robertson to Hawkesbury and back is a 4-hour run at minimum (add another 8.6 miles total if he goes to Ivaco on the L'Orignal Spur, which he did not do this day). To get to this spur, CN 589 has to use VIA Rail's Alexandria Sub to reach Glen Robertson, where the Vankleek Spur begins.

  1. Great image ! I wonder how much longer they’ll operate this line ? Wasn’t this a line that CN had turned over to a private operator then took it back ?

  2. Correct, this was run as the Ottawa Central Railway until CN took the line back.

  3. Typical CN maintenance.
They don’t make billions a yr in profit for no reason!

  4. Someone needs to mow the tracks! Great shot.

  5. Excellent photo Michael.
