An unlikely duo in 2023 in the form of horsepower hour payback BNSF GP38-2 2090 and a CN GP9RM, are seen slowly heading down the Fergus spur with five cars for Flochem just southwest of Guelph. The Fergus spur has definitely seen better days considering the traffic the line once generated especially within Cambridge. Today Flochem is one of only two surviving customers left on the line.

  1. Nice photo.

  2. Three customers. Innovative Steam Technologies ships occasionally.

  3. Nice! Is 542 still based in Preston?

  4. L542 is longer based in Preston, it is out of Kitchener daily and even on the weekends to Guelph. Occasionally on the weekends they will be symbolled as 540.

  5. Negative. Hasn’t been based out of there for a year or so now since Hunts Haulage moved and closed Eagle St. They run as required, they can go down anytime. 540 dud Galt Sunday and 542 flochem Monday. Galt is about once or twice a week (as required, so only if they need to) and Flochem about the same. They often don’t do both on the same trip but sometimes they do. Anything goes.

  6. I thought that was the case, but couldn’t remember. It’s been a while since I’ve been up that way. Thank you gentlemen.

  7. What are the two white things on the roof on the BNSF unit?

  8. I think those are the air conditioners.

  9. Yes air conditioners

  10. They must like the ride. ;) Good photo btw @Marcus.
