The Alberta Prairie railroad is obviously more than just tourist excursions. In this photograph we see a local returning from Botha to Stettler with APXX 6347 and 7438 up front. The image was shot from alongside Hwy 12 which parallels the line for a few miles. Lighting was tough as it was very early morning.
I am quite sure the 7438 is one of those old Conrail engines I used to see when wandering around Niagara many years ago. The CTG states it began life on the NYC and the lead unit 6347 was once the property of the Southern Pacific. Interesting !!

  1. The 7438 sure looks good. Nice catch.

  2. A high hood geep.. wow..

  3. Nice shot Arnold.

That is a very historic GP9, as it was part of Central Western Railway, which was originally owned by Thomas Payne. CWR basically began the era of shortline railway’s across Canada.

I’m with the, “Wow, high hood geep”. :-)
