In 1993, Burlington Northern had placed a record setting 350-unit order with GMDD in London, Ontario for 4,000 horsepower SD70MAC’s totalling $675 million. In December 1993, the first one, BN 9400 rolled-off the assembly line at the London plant with 349 more to follow over the course of the next couple years. Painted in the BN “Executive Scheme” the units departed London for delivery to BN in Chicago via both CN and Canadian Pacific.

Here BN 9421 gleams in the early morning winter sun at CN’s yard in London waiting to be lifted after having made the short trip from the GMDD plant.

  1. Hmmm. BN Executive Scheme.
I wonder who came up with CN’s most recent business car paint scheme?
Replace the BN dark green with black, thicken up the red stripes, and voila!

  2. Thanks for the comment Paul. Yes, quite a few similarities in the paint schemes.
