Looking every bit it’s age and with its days of leading trains long behind it, veteran M-630 4570 is viewed taking on fuel at CP’s Toronto Yard. Built during 1969 by MLW, the aging locomotive had been retired in November 1993, then un-retired during June 1994 as CP found itself increasingly power short. It managed to stay in service until August 1995 before it was ultimately retired for good and eventually scrapped.

    Was it a slug? The windows are all covered up.

    It was a loco that had all cab equipment removed to be re-used elsewhere and had windows boarded up.

    One of a few reactivated as “B-unit” with windows blanked. Blanked window B-units included: 4511, 4570, 4715, 4718, 4719, 4721. The windows appear to have been replaced with plywood painted red.

    4511 also had face decals put over the plywood right after it was reactivated in 1994.
