On CP’s Crowsnest subdivision, Coalhurst was at mileage 6.4 west of original Lethbridge, with an active train order office to serve the junction with the Aldersyde sub. a bit west of the depot. This is now the location of new Lethbridge and Kipp Yard, much changed from Monday 1974-09-30, this view being from the west end of the depot, carefully including the only two significant trees in the area, traditional for prairie depots. Just east of the depot is the wye junction to the north for the Turin sub.

  1. I remember shooting this back in 1978, but from the other end.
That’s a glorious late day sun you have. It really enhances a fine image.
So disappointing to see these classics get demolished.

  2. Sweet scene. Simpler times on the CP.

  3. Yes. You can really feel the mood in this image.

  4. That was taken on my first prairies road trip, lucky timing as open train order offices were still common, and plenty of active branchlines with elevators every seven miles or so.
