A very early 559 returns to Mont-Joli with an IANR GP38-2 they picked up in Rivière-du-Loup, destinated to Mont-Joli, where they will wait their turn for the COGEMA ferry. As it turned out, these IANR engines weren't actually meant to be sent to the north shore, and were brought back to Montreal a few days later.

This shot was a very lucky one, as 559 usually returns home in the middle of the night. In fact, at this time of the evening, at around 8 PM, it usually is the westbound trip that can be seen.

  1. Certainly is a lucky shot, as you said. This is really nice, and very unusual.

  2. Nice composition.

  3. It will be interesting to see where all these units end up. And the photo lines that follow them. Ian please tell me, in a situation like this, how many photographers were out following this train ? :)

  4. Thank you all for the nice comments!

@Stephen I was the only railbuff to see it, i did expect 559 to come around that time but i didn’t know they would bring the IANR engine that was left there a couple of days ago! For where they are now, it seems atleast 2 of them are currently assigned around Montreal.
