  1. Nice.

  2. Thanks Terry!

  3. Really great, rare movement on the move

  4. Gio switches this location several days a week usually 7-9am
Some days they have two units mu’ed doing the work.

  5. Thanks Klaucker and NiagaraMike11 for the additional comments.

  6. Neat picture – appreciate up date on operation at this location.

  7. NiagaraMike11…. What are the movements there….ie. What are the pulling in or out of Bioveld..it has been maybe 4 years since I was in there, and at that time not much for rail movements…..Thx M

  8. I’v only seen tank cars and the odd boxcar moved from the tracks beside the old paper mill. Some days they pull 20 plus tank cars, other days 2-3.
The only info I can find is the tank cars are transloaded to trucks(diesel fuel) and distributed around Niagara! If anyone has more info I would be interested if they commemt! This whole area may change when they double the size of the natural gas power plant some time soon!

  9. Also just around the corner where the long gone Georgia Pacific Plant was is to have a 4 track tansload yard built and handled by GIO as well The track from the old Hayes Dana plant to the transload yard is installed up to the property line already and a new access area and truck turn around is already installed.

  10. When I was here this year with Jason and Jacob the train had only boxcars. They were out and back into the plant in under 30 minutes, so when they have a light day it’s very quick. The same crew ended up working another job in Port Colborne so they weren’t sticking around to do a 2′nd switch.

Mike can you expand on how a track is going from the old Hayes Dana plant to the transload yard? Are they building a new track in the bush or off the Conigas spur?

I noticed they fixed up the old Thorold sub track toward the long gone canal bridge and added a pad for more transload there.

Lots of improvements and money being spent, once this place is busy I imagine it’ll become more than just a 30 minute operation.

  11. One half of the plant does paper and one deals with tank cars. The paper must come from up north as they get a lot of ONR cars. I’m not sure what’s in the tankers, but that’s been a lot what they’ve been bringing out lately.

  12. The paper is what used to go to WP Warehousing in St. Catharines, it’s all for the former Interlake Paper plant in Thorold (Now Dunn).

This paper is unloaded in the west (Canal) side of the plant, similar to what was done during the paper plant operation in latter years.

The east side of the property does have a tank farm with unloading racks but that’s not near the buildings.

In the east side of the building they’re now transloading hoppers (Plastic pellets?) which would be the ‘centre track’ – all information current as of 2025, you can see in google earth satellite view

It’s great to see so much activity, but I have yet to see them do anything more than the 30 minute in and out, just like it was when I shot the paper plant in 2016. Amazing how active the place will become soon when I figured it was dead for good as these places usually become.

  13. The track from the old Hayes Dana plant yard was extended over the road entrance down about 100 yards to the property line at the old GP pro, I read the name somewhere of the transload company but cant recall.
I was told awhile back there would be 11 tenants using the old Hayes Dana plant. There is at least 5-6 already.

  14. Thanks Mike. I checked old Aerial maps and it just might be using the old right of way that used to be there in the 30′s. The latest maps from May 2025 don’t show the new track yet.
