Over the International Bridge at Fort Erie comes Chessie (B&O) 4424 and 4277 with a transfer while Maine Central 593 and 591 are heading Stateside.
Fort Erie's CN used to be quite busy daily with transfer runs coming over from the USA.
Chessie, Conrail and NS....I'm guessing MEC power was available on this particular day. Anyone have proper information?
Photo taken from Central Av Bridge.
"Black Rock", over in Buffalo, can be seen over the river.

  1. I suppose the identifying factor in the Chessie train being a transfer is it is leading into the CN section of track – otherwise it would be taking the Fort Erie sub to head to St. Thomas. Would that MEC be a Conrail transfer then?

  2. Another Mooney Classic. Awesome. The MEC units would be on a transfer to/from D&H SK Yard wouldn’t they? I assume this was during the “Guilford” era on the D&H?

  3. Correct, Rob. From SK Yard it is. Thankfully with whatever power was laying around. Figuring who did what and why with what has been getting my noggin scrambled. Old, ya know.

  4. Awesome shot, hard to believe the power that once ran here

  5. Yes, the D&H/ Guilford era, right before CSX took paper control of NYSW. The 2 Chessie gp40′s are on a transfer on behalf of ? CR and these were C&O St Thomas crews, either laying over from 42/41, or deadheaded specifically for this transfer. It was CN traffic to/from CR and also to/from the B&O portion of Chessie at that time. They would originate at B&O Buffalo Creek yard, make the turn and go back. Then either get rest and take 41 ‘home’, or go home in a taxi. Sounds familiar ? Yep, its how the NS operates today because CN doesn’t want to do it. Bruce
