Here we have a great shot of a 1953 Austin A40 Somerset Saloon... oh wait, is this a car picture or a train picture?? Ummm, well, the diesel fans will enjoy the view of CPR 9124... the steam fanatics will enjoy Pacific Type 2218... and the automobile enthusiasts will simply enjoy the Somerset Saloon! In any event, all three came together in Pembroke, Ontario, at the CPR stone station (long since torn down). The photographer was the late Del Rosamond. My thanks, once again, to Steve Host at Railpictures.ca, for allowing me to share with you a link to 75 of Del's recently professionally restored images. You will find them at... www.CanadianSteam.Smugmug.com

  1. For more photos from Del Rosamond (Peter Newman Collection) see this page: http://www.railpictures.ca/author/canadiansteam – additional photos are also on http://canadiansteam.smugmug.com/

  2. Wonderful picture!

  3. Those English jalopies were a hoot. I can recall Vauxhalls, Zephrs and Consuls, for example, and each and every one of them seemed to need human assistance in order to climb all but the gentlest grades. Oh, and yes, I love the railroad photo!!

  4. Mary W. wrote from Pembroke. She thought the concrete foundation shown in foreground was the most interesting part of this image – that is where her first childhood home sat. Photographs can be a funny thing.

  5. Classic !

  6. Hmmm, the diesel here should probably be FA1 4021 – there was no 9121 back then.
