Doing its' very best impression of the Iron Horse, CP 4563 steams...er..smokes its way out of Guelph Jct westbound. Trailing is 4720, and, hidden in the shadows is CP 7064, an old Alco S-2. One could assume this relic was probably heading for retirement. Photo taken from the side of First Line, once a gathering spot for CP fans, now gone quiet due to infestation of "No Parking" signs.

  1. That’s a nice one Mr.Mooney did you get covered in black smoke? Had they just made a lift of hoppers there they look like loaded salt cars off the Godrich Sub.

  2. I know Alco’s are known for their smoke, but damn, that’s alot! Great shot!

  3. Not as bad as you might think, Gord. But it figured I did not have the foresight to close the car windows. It never fails to amaze me how observant some of you group members are. Yes, indeed this train picked up a long line of cars off the junction siding. I think the smoke show was a mild reward for my patience. That was what was so good about #923. She worked along the way, giving us guys lots of opportunity to grab all the shots we needed.

  4. Well I was going to guess that it was 923 but at the time of this photo I would have been just over a year old. I just remember later life seeing those hopper cars passing are home going to or from Godrich. Lots of nights hearing the evening train to Godrich blowing at Marden Rd and running out the back door to watch go by.

  9. Brad, you might want to check the date on your photo. In the Toronto area CP’s Alco/MLW switchers were maintained out of John St. roundhouse. When it closed in July 1986, whatever remaining Alco/MLW S- switchers in the Toronto/GTA area were retired with its closing – CP was getting rid of all of those obsolete 539-powered units for newly rebuilt Geeps and SW’s.
