CN 6060 was regularly used on the Saturday VIA trains from Toronto to Niagara Falls in the late 70's, but on Thursday 7/24/1980 the Bullet Nosed Betty Mountain was used on a special for the NRHS convention that was centered in Toronto. Here it's arriving Bayview Jct as seen off of Plains Rd.

  1. Awhh…Dave…..you got to see this train Niagara-bound!!! I caught it upon return at Merritton. Photo no. 14794. Totally forgot it was a “Special”.

  2. Very nice. I always wondered if VIA technically, had Steam on the roster, but i’ve been told no. But… it seems easy to say that VIA did have Steam on the roster considering these Niagara excursions into ’80 or so :)

This topic may be sacrilegious to some types.. but heck.. I don’t care :)

  3. Steam Jennies ?? LOL

  4. Arnold, I was able to take one day off work and drive up to see this excursion. I don’t remember why I did that since I also had done the same with a few of the Saturday trips. Maybe it was just knowing that the end was coming. So I was around most of the day. I’ve seen your shot at Merritton on this site before.

Steve, I don’t think that 6060 made it onto the VIA roster officially, but like you, I don’t care. It was cool while it lasted.
