A succession of elderly pieces of passenger rolling stock were utilized by the Thousand Islands Railway over the years. Canadian National combination car 7145 served from 1952 to 1959 when it was retired. It had been built in 1911 by the Preston Car & Coach Company for the Canadian Northern Quebec Railway. It's seen here after arriving at Gananoque station with diesel-electric 500, after making the 4.5 mile trip from Gananoque Junction (another view of the train in front of the station from a different angle: http://www.railpictures.ca/?attachment_id=24039).

  1. Classic!!! Lookit that switch-stand!!! Would sure look nice in my backyard.

  2. Gananoque is in Ontario, not Quebec!

  3. I’m a fan of not only railroading, but of stations – and although this station is unique (and no longer in existence like the TIR), I never really was aware of it or the railway. It didn’t interest me at first like the mainline action you would see at Gananoque Junction.

However, now knowing more history about the Thousand Islands Rwy., it’s a great shot of the line and station in use. If only I had taken photos of this station before it was demolished sometime around 1994…

  4. John this has been corrected, it was a moderator error not the photographer. Thank you.
