One chance I get to catch a freight while in the village of Wyoming, ON.,and for obvious safety reasons I cannot cross the tracks. So this is what I get. CN 9476, 9589 and 9479, a trio of GP40-2L(W, really blew thru here; was caught off guard by the speed limit. Must have been 55 MPH at least. For what its worth, I did make note the caboose on the end of train was #79438. I do not recall the next time I managed to get out to the station for another action shot,(maybe 1979) but when I did, the building was gone.

  1. Arnold…you captured GOLD on this one! It kind of hit home for me too…from 1980, at 4 years old…until 1985 we lived 10 km south in Petrolia. I remember always crossing the tracks at Wyoming…and my only memory of the station is of a train trip we took in the early 80′s. It was late at night, and we were returning home/ The train stopped at the station and I only remember this because of how pitch black it was outside…but the platform lights located underneath the overhanging roof, were on, giving it an eerily yet sensational feeling of what train travel was years ago. It was the picture perfect setting of a small town (or country) station. Lovely shot.

  2. Awh geez….memories, memories…..Glad this old shot did something for you. Childhood memories increase in significance as you get older; especially the ones now that would be trifling. So the station was still there in the early 80s? I’d love to know when it came down, and why.

  3. I’d say that train trip was ’82 or ’83…so sometime right after that I am sure. As to why? I’m guessing from the peeling and painted insulbrick that the railway no longer had an interest in maintaining the building…after all….even in your photo, it possibly looks like CN crews started to use the yellow shed constructed just beyond the station. Nowadays, VIA has a shelter where people still catch the train from.
