I don’t know whether or not the rules has changed, but when I retired in 2010, single units were restricted to 40mph, account potential signal issues. Running light to London wouldn’t be as “enjoyable” with one unit as it would with at least two pieces of equipment. 40 is a slow go, especially when you know that you could easily do 60 even going uphill (where usually permitted). They should have begged to lift a car, any car. One would suffice.
