A nice surprise was three CP Red Barns on the head end of a westbound freight one morning while sitting at Guelph Jct. CP 9003, 9010 and 9024, with a pair of GP40-2 units trailing. The Red Barns are in the news now as they have all been removed from the CP roster, and recently some have graced the Central Maine and Quebec, which operates over the former MM&A trackage. CP 4656 (x-BM 301) now HLCX 4222, and 4657 (x-BM 306) last I know was still on the roster.

  1. Wow!

  2. Wow, that’s luck

  3. Awesome!!!

  4. I am usually disappointed when I go up to this area and have only seen a train like this in that spot a couple of times. Of course, I go “on spec” not guided by the Instrument Of the True Railfan – a scanner.
April is a good time for photography too. In all a very nice shot.

  5. Arnold CP still has a few barns in storage….

some sd40-2′s are being reactivated, it is remotely possible some come back this winter.

Levack has an sd40-2 again btw for example!

  6. Info appreciated, Mr. Host. I have not kept up to date with the CP’s discarding of surplus power. All I know is I haven’t seen a Barn on the road for a long time; and that they look very very nice painted up on the CMQ !!

  7. Great shot! There are 2 red barns (9001 & 9006) still in storage at Agincourt yard so the hope is still there.
