Essex Terminal Railway van 55, a vintage wooden caboose likely dating from the early 1900's and still sporting old arch bar trucks, is pictured in Windsor in 1965. Its disposition is unknown, but a small steel caboose eventually took over 55's number in the late 70's (the "second" ETR 54 & 55 were ex-PC/PRR steel vans acquired used from Conrail). Two of 55's sister wooden vans survive: 53 is presently on display at the CN Essex Station, and sister 54 is at the Gibson Gallery in Amherstburg (both vans built circa 1907).

  1. Wow……. if one of these existed today..

  2. Really interesting. Almost looks ‘home-made’.

  3. While the Essex Terminal Railway’s initials are ETR,
    the Reporting Mark is ETL.
