  1. All things considered, it is still looking good!

  2. If only things were so rosey! Over the past couple of years a mold problem in the perpetually leaking station basement temporarily forced out the tenants while the town council moaned and groaned and fretted about what to do – spend the money to fix it, demo it or get rid of it. Fortunately it is on a heritage building list so demo would have been more trouble than it was worth and after a vey long time debating the issue it was decided to spend the money to fix it up – then get rid of it. So many months and many, many thousands of dollars later they ended up selling it (or agreeing to at least, not sure if it’s actually happened yet)to a group of two or three businessmen for the princely sum of $2.00, twice what they initially paid CN for it! The businessmen have indicated their intentions are to maintain and preserve it and keep tenants in it, and frankly it’s probably in safer hands with them than if it were to remain in those of the bandits running the town.

  3. The freight shed is still CN property and is used for storage and as home base for the crew of CN 595, the local road switch job, and Maintenance of Way operations. Hopefully they’ll get around to giving it a coat of paint soon. It should be mentioned that the Huntsville Railway Station Society has been instrumental in keeping the station part going since the town acquired it, but are a small donor-funded operation and certainly unable of raising the funds needed to do the repairs and foot the utilities, ongoing maintenance and tax bills or they could have taken it over themselves. I’m hopeful they will continue to have a good working relationship with the new owners!
