Shiny TTC A6-class PCC 4381 heads northbound on Bay Street above Lake Shore Blvd., just about to duck under the Union Station rail viaduct during an overcast Saturday fantrip. Her route rollsign is displaying "Dupont" for the old Dupont streetcar route that used to run up Bay until the University subway line opened in February 1963 (the tracks here remained on Bay for seasonal Ferry Docks service until discontinued later in 1965). 
Also chartered for the fantrip was Peter Witt streetcar 2766, visible in the distance stopped for traffic at Harbour Street.  In contrast to the spit and polish look of 4381, 2766 was looking rather ratty by that time as what few Witts remained had already been retired earlier that year except 2766, which would run a few more fantrips until being retired in July (later brought back in the 70's and overhauled for tour tram service).

Notable landmarks pictured include the Toronto Postal Delivery Building (now the site of the Air Canada Centre) with a red Royal Mail Canada delivery truck parked out front, the concrete supports of the Gardiner Expressway, a slight lack of development along the waterfront (compared to today!), some cyclists on their merry way down Bay, and of course the usual assortment of 50's and 60's vintage auto content for those into that sort of thing...

  2. Yeah, gotta love the ‘wheels’ in this shot. Back at the stoplight, it looks like one of those pathetic old British clunkers of the day…maybe a Zephr, or Consul…those cars you had to bail out of in order they climb a hill under their own power….but indeed that Mail Truck is something else !!!!
