So.... here's the other locomotive used by Martech Industrial Services Inc in the Welland area. This has the logo on it for "OSH Rail Services", reporting marks "MPRX 101" and this unit was rebuilt somewhere approx 2014 and it's been in our area for at least two years. The history of this thing is a mystery but it's used almost daily down here for those who want to go see it. Martech owns a railcar repair business down by the end of this line as well as switches this pipe plant with various spurs. This operation only has two grade crossings so it's a tough one to photograph unless you get lucky. I've photographed both the ex Stelco unit and this once each over the last couple years but can't say how often either are used.

  3. The NSC units are 45 tonners. The Stelco 615 is an 80 tonner so nearly twice the size so you are probably noticing the size difference :) 101 is probably an 80 tonner too no? I’m no expert in critters .. yet..

  5. A few things.. 1) has anyone yet figured out the history on this thing? 2) is that a re-railer? 3) from what I gathered in brief conversation with a guy from Martech yesterday, this unit belongs to and is operated by Welded Tube themselves.

  7. James, as for history, seems no..

    MPRX is Motive Power & Equipment Resources (Dave Wilkerson owner) out of Greenville, SC.

    The unit was spotted in 2014 in Ohio in it’s current paint scheme. Earlier spottings on Internet show it in a white or tan colour crudely stenciled. (Source: DRD List for all)

    What we need someone to do is get up close to the unit and see if you can find a frame number, which should be the serial number of the unit. That will probably identify it positively. No one seems to have been able to do this yet. Once we get this frame number give it to Bruce Mercer.

    Maybe Welland Tube has their own rail crew. But I can say I’ve seen both locomotives used to haul these pipe cars to Southern Yard.

    Things may also have changed since I last saw this operation.
