Here's a view of the old Waterman's Tower at the CN crossing, King St in Kitchener. Another "personal side" of railroading long gone.

  1. I was living in Waterloo at that time, and I never even noticed this structure – dumbass that I was.

  2. We were all young and dumb at some point Steve :) It’s ok :) The things I missed make me slap my dome.

  3. Grey structure, blue door. Very CN.

  4. Almost the same as the one at Brant St in Burlington

  5. I was around 6 years old (1969) growing up in “K-W” when my dad spoke to the gate operator up the stairs and were invited up to take a look. I recall only the view and the airiness of it. Wish dad had taken a pic or two.
Dad was never overtly a train guy but took my brothers and I on the first train ride I remember from Kingston to Kentville NS, return, on the DAR Dayliner 2-3 yrs prior when we still lived in the Annapolis Valley.
At Kitchener station once while a train was stopped, also late 1960’s, I vividly recall him speaking to the driver of the FP9A and voila we got to see inside the cab. It was a summer evening just getting dark and we had driven from home after supper quite impromptu I guess, just to see a train, while already in our pj’s ready for bed when we got home.

  6. Great memories to be had. The very fact you recall such interesting times is a reward you can fondly thank your dad for.
