Driving over to Bayview after a days' work in Stoney Creek I was surprised to see a hoard of railfans all congregated on the Plains Rd bridge looking over toward Aldershot. Seems the daily Starlite had some interesting power on it. Of course I hung in with the rest. Along came QNSL 209, CP 8921 (Empress of Agincourt) and TH&B 77. Posted an image here on RP back in 2012 (#6247) Only four of us went into Aberdeen in pursuit of it though. And the sun got down, the shadows long, and this was the last image I took of the power; with caboose it appeared it was going to return to Toronto light. Amazing set of power though.

  1. What a consist!!!

  2. So, curious, how did everyone find out about this? Telephone? :)
    who tipped everyone off???

  3. I really have no idea, being a latecomer on the scene that day. (Drove by after work and there was a waiting mob)
It used to be someone knew someone and the word was relayed and fans notified each other by home phone. Of course if you went to “The Jct” there was always a bunch hanging out there, as well as guys driving by, like I happened to.
The tip must have come from Toronto, but alas, there is no one left of the “in-crowd” to ask now.

  4. I made an error in my caption here too, Steve. There were 4 OTHERS besides me……Bill McArthur, Doug Page, Reg Button and Bill Mathews. I guess you could say ‘all guys who didn’t have to answer to anybody’ at the time.

  5. LOL. that’s allright. Just curious. Love how things were back then.

  6. This is Mr Robin Reikel,s work. He worked at Power Berua at the time. Joke was hom cups of coffee did this take.
