CP train 923 with 4239 and VIA Rail 6455 is heading westbound at Streetsville, Ontario on the Galt Subdivision. During 1994-1995 CP had leased several VIA Rail units to assist them through their severe motive power shortage until the new GE's that were on order started arriving.

Also of note; according to Branchline Magazine, this train also lifted new Caltrans F59PHM-I's 2003 and 2002 from London that day. Both of these had recently been built at the GMDD facility and were enroute to California.

  1. What a beauty

  2. Great photo! While looking at old views of Steeetsville circa mid 1990s, I noticed that the entire GO station and platform seemed to be in a completely different position than modern times, would anyone be able to elaborate on when GO moved their platform into the center of the 2 main tracks? and I also believe the tracks were moved, or that signal cantilever in the background was moved closer towards the Missisauga Rd. level crossing

  3. Thanks for the comments guys.

@cp5756- I’m not sure when GO moved the platform.

  4. Must have been a small train. The tonnage rating for 2 four axle units between Dixie & Guelph Jct. was 3400.

4 axles were rated at 1700 each & 6 axles units were 2550 tons each. So, two 6 axle units were expected to handle the same tonnage as 3 four axles.

  5. @RonaldB- A very delayed thank you for the information on the tonnage. If memory serves it wasn’t a very long train.
