And just down the spur is the Fibreglass facility, this was an angle I didn't get back in 2014 - a year or two later Fibreglass stopped using rail service. But in 2020 fibreglass came back to rail - and what's changed is their formerly white cars are now orange due to lot of rust on the exterior but not much has changed. RS23 505 kicks in good with a puff of smoke as the crossing for York Rd is protected and the train accelerates to depart the plant, where the crew will close the gates, throw the derail and head to the north end of town. This facility is now serviced by GEXR.

Caption: And just down the spur from my last shot is the Owens Corning Fibreglass facility. This was an angle I didn't get back in 2014 - a year or two later Fibreglass stopped using rail service and I regretted that decision. But in 2020 fibreglass came back to rail - and what's changed is their formerly white cars are now orange due to lot of rust on the exterior but other than that not much has changed. RS23 505 kicks in good with a puff of MLW smoke as the crossing for York Rd is protected and the train accelerates to depart the plant. Soon, the crew will close the gates, throw the derail and head to the north end of town. This facility is now serviced by GEXR.

  1. Another interesting note is this spur once had CNR service, back before 1933 when the Guelph Street Railway operated. The york road streetcar line handled freight traffic and there was a spur off the street line it to bring CNR cars down to this part of Guelph from the CNR/Guelph Streetcar interhcange. Back in 1933 this area would have looked much different and a number of smaller industries were located beside the river here, eventually being closed/swallowed by Owens Corning leaving what we have today. Owens Corning sold off half their business to NGF (Japanese firm) that operates the south end of the plant while the north half still makes Fibreglass products.

  2. Great scene.
