Correction- This is Park Farm Grains Ltd and not Growmark (FS Partners) facility track.
That track used to be for the Maus stockyard. Just before I hired on CP, there used to be an extension of the track that crossed Northumberland Street and led to a margarine factory. It wasn’t unusual to arrived at Ayr from Toronto and have 5 or 6 stock cars or more. We had to unload them in concert wit the farmers receiving them. One could be stuck switching there for an hour or longer. The other thing, if you had any six axle units, they had to be left in Ayr yard (or on the main track) as only 4 axle power could use the spur from the “top” of the wye in. The other track led to a company ballast pit which was apparently tapped out by the mid 1980s.
Thanks for all the information Ron. That’s very interesting about the margarine factory across from the feed mill along Northumberland Street. Do you ever recall setting-off cars there?
