Last weekend Metrolinx had added extra Kitchener Line service on October 7 and the following weekend for the first time, to alleviate increased demand on GO bus service over the fall reading week. Here the first weekend revenue GO train is seen at the Kitchener, Ontario station on October 7 after loading a full platform of riders.

  1. Very nice Jason, an experiment by GO that should be made permanent, not for just university/college reading week. Was wondering whether it would attract riders whether they were reading week students or travellers wanting to go Toronto for a weekend outing. Your report is very encouraging, and if possible, perhaps you could watch GO trains to arrive back this Sunday. Am confident students in Guelph would also use this service. Thanks for sharing, John

  2. Thanks for the comment John. I wasn’t able to get there this past Sunday to observe, but I’m hoping they will add these additional trips for around Christmas time for the students as well.

  3. I hope this is the first true weekend service of many. It’s long overdue. The only reason they couldn’t do it to date was the numerous, dozens of weekend shutdowns to redo track, bridges and other infrastructure. Now that’s it’s largely done (there’s still more to go, don’t be wrong) they absolutely can begin weekend service..

The Bramalea busses are often full and I think this is the reason why – we’re seeing it overflow into trains which is a great thing.
