Railpictures.ca - Jason Noe Photo: On January 9, 1995 the CN 15:30 Kitchener Job moved the very first piece of Waterloo-St. Jacobs Railway equipment on the Waterloo Spur to St. Jacobs, Ontario where it would be set-off. The car was former CN track geometry car #15000 and was built by CC&F in 1923 as sleeper car #1570- “Jellicoe.” It featured 12 sleeper sections and one drawing room and was later reduced in 1948 to 8 sections and one drawing room as well as renumbered 1819, however still retained the name “Jellicoe.” In July 1973, CN converted it into a track geometry car. Here the car is viewed sitting in St. Jacobs a few weeks after arriving showing its newly applied WJXX lettering. At this point, WSJR’s planned excursion service was still over two years away from commencing operations on the spur during summer 1997. You’re welcome Jason.
I was on the car several times back in the early 1980′s when I worked for CN in Montreal. The photos I linked you to were taken at the CN Research Centre located at 3950 Hickmore Ave. in St. Laurent, QC.
The Manager T.E.S.T. at the time was a great guy named Bill Lane. He and his team had their offices next to mine on the 13th Floor of the CN H.Q. building in downtown Montreal.
