Nice sunny day and I am out by Stanley Av and Whirlpool in Niagara Falls, snapping a shot of NS #328 as it rolls USA-bound, (by way of the Stamford sub) running light on this Monday morning. Mile 2.8 was a popular spot for me back then as I still lived in St. Catharines (moved to Grimsby in 1999) and this location, with its ideal morning sun angle, was but a hop, skip and a jump over the Welland Canal, so to speak.
Power is NS 6597, 8530 and vans 555077 and 555020.

  1. Interesting, I didn’t know there used to be seemingly a switch onto the Grimsby from that spot

  2. Very nice! I missed the vans by about a year, always liked this spot too. Sad what has become of Niagara region railroading. So much gone now.

  3. Thanks, Marcus.
You can’t even find a place to park at this spot any more, either.

  4. Marcus I found one of those caboose in Oakwood yard in Detroit 2 years ago

Arnold this is very nice. Assuming there were signals behind you for ctc?

  5. I forgot the Grimsby was OCS from Clifton to Hamilton until 2002 ish when the double track was removed and CTC was installed.
