This is CN Manifest freight train 403 passing the old searchlight and dwarf signals at the eastern end of Saint-André siding on a very chilly late afternoon. On that day, temperature was down atleast 25 degrees below freezing point, but since trains aren't running daily on the Mont-Joli subdivision anymore, and now running on a rather unpredictable schedule, i figured i'd make up for it by taking on a little trip in order to catch both manifest freights in broad daylight, even if its freezing cold outside. Not only it was painfully cold for the face and the fingers, but the camera even had troubles when shooting, giving rather blury images even when properly focused. Luckily, i was able to salvage a couple of shots, including this one.
In the end, i didn't get frostbite, so that little trip was entirely worth it!

  1. Funny how those trips are always worth it, even if the weather is brutal.
Personally, now I look outside here at Grimsby, ON and see the 10F air and strong wind blowing snow around and I say “The (Bleep) with it”.
My courage has gone south. :o )
Great that you made the effort and that is not a bad shot at all.

  2. Oh yeah, it helps that i only make trips when i know they are gonna be worth it hahaha! I typically wouldn’t have gone after modern GEs or EMDs in that weather…
    Thanks A.W.!

  3. Beautiful lead unit as well!

  4. Nice winter scene.

  5. Thank you for your nice comments!
