The 3 final QNSL C44-9Ws to be retired are trailing on CN 403 today, and are likely headed for Larry's Truck and Electric like the others that were sent back in 2022. During their final years of operation, they were mostly assigned as mid-consist DPUs, and rarely leading trains on the Arnaud subdivision. As you can tell by the amount of snow that piled up on top of the engines, they had been waiting their turn to take the ferry for a few months already.

  1. Seriously, this is a really nice image. And history-making as well. My “assumption” is these units will enter the US by way of Niagara. Heads up!! If they go by the way of Detroit area, oh well………

  2. Thanks Arnold! They likely will go through the same route as the other ones did a few years ago, if they did go through Niagara, get your camera ready for action!

  3. Was out this morning in the cold bright sunshine, but no luck. Hoping tomorrow. New QNSL come thru Niagara. I dunno about the oldies.

  4. Very nice Ian, nice colour and like the hills in the behind. First time I have seen a picture taken at this location. Looks very cold and wintry, hope you kept warm, John

  5. Thanks John! Not a lot of railfans are going on the Mont-Joli subdivision to take pictures, likely due to the low amount of traffic the line currently sees. The temperature on that day wasn’t too bad, it felt relatively warm compared to these -35 days we had 2 weeks ago… Brrrr!
