Yes, you’re right, that is a typo. That should be GO transit, not GIO rail. I have contacted the page administrators to ask if that could be altered (I didn’t see a way to change it from my end)
Cool shot. This view has changed tremendously in a short amount of time. I used to pass through here very regularly, but now I do only infrequently. I have to take stock of this every time now, it’s familiar and unfamiliar at once.
Isn’t it incredible how much a familiar presence can change? I remember Toronto of the 80′s & 90′s (after that time it became too much trouble to drive to and visit, because of traffic) and I am astounded to see photos from the ’70s when it was so different – so….flat!

I like the way the fluted roof of VIA 88709 Laurentide Park is guiding you into the Union Station train shed.
VIA 88709 carries the name “Laurentide” on one side, and “Laurentides” on the other.
Other than the CN Tower, that scene looks nothing like it did in 1984 when I had my office in Room 257 of Union Station.
Holy moley!! Yes: You’re right about the name (slightly different on each side) – I thought that was my imagination!
Looks like the typo was fixed. This is an amazing shot – great work! One day the USRC will be covered in skyscrapers and the tower won’t be so visible anymore from this vantage point.
Thank you – the scene was too beautiful NOT to photograph. I did not edit the image in any way (perhaps I should have, to brighten up the GO train, almost secondary to the skyline)
