At the very north end of CN’s Athabasca subdivision (originally Canadian Northern’s subsidiary Edmonton & Slave Lake) was the town of Athabasca, on the south side of the Athabasca River. A turn from Edmonton on Sunday 1980-09-21 with branchline GMD1s CN 1008 + 1007 +1009 brought empties for loading at the several grain elevators, and as seen here, collected a train of loads to take back southward. That depot was then occupied by the Athabasca District Senior Citizens Society, and survives to this day administered by the Athabasca Heritage Society.
