Here's a view looking down from the CCSL (Canada Crushed Stone Ltd) conveyor building (before it was demolished in 1986) and shows the old Steetley Quarry operations off the south side of the CN Dundas sub at mile 4. What is interesting in this photo is the operation had access to the CN on the left, as well the old Dundas Branch (H&D) of the TH&B which I recall running along Hatt St in the downtown.
Never was able to catch a TH&B move this far on the line. Best I could do was a lonely old TH&B boxcar shown. It is interesting there was actually a connection between CN and the TH&B in Dundas, if only thru some industrial trackage.
All this is gone. A modern subdivision of pricy homes has taken its place.

  1. Great history Arnold, but I feel this photo is the ‘pits’ (***groan****)….never heard of H&D before though….also, knew that the TH&B ran in Dundas, again…it was all removed by the time i took further interest in the TH&B late 90s.

  2. Todd: Some rather significant information is found on-line regarding the old Hamilton & Dundas railroad. Once you start digging into the historical world of railroads in Ontario’s South-west; the reading is endless.
