Caption: I forget the reasons, but occasionally we would see GO power substituting for VIA here and there. Sometimes just the locomotives, sometimes a trainset, as seen here.
I suspect VIA was power short. Could be due to issues with the LRCs that were relatively new and supposed to carry the load for the passenger service.
In this shot, cab leading, the rear unit is 510; and this is the old Inksetter Rd bridge before it went under structural changes to support increasing road traffic.
I marked my notes as this being VIA #73. Perhaps someone has other information regarding GO on VIA.

Nice catch Arnold. Wonder what the grey ‘pipes’ are to the right, in the ditch? I know this area has had drainage issues before…might be in relation to that?
Endless drainage issues. Most likely part of the situation.
There is a roadway down to the tracks on the right, out of sight.
A couple of winters ago I walked down it during a very cold snap and I was surprised to see water bubbling out of the ground and running down the grade when everything else was frozen solid.
There is always something going on around there.
Back in the days when CN used crushed slag for ballast. It was so hard on Work Equipment machines such as tampers and ballast regulators!
