Caption: It was rather invigorating to be invited up into the cab of PRMX 6973 for a run down to the Poplar River Power Generating Station, about 12 miles distant to the south. In this image, we are loading and almost ready to depart the Poplar River Coal Mine. Not much out there to see, typical Saskatchewan grasses and a few gravel grade crossings until you get to the Hwy 18 crossing and the Generating Plant. Coronach itself, a village of about 650 people, lies a bit to the west.
The whole operation here is under control of Westmoreland Mining, LLC, and there is a chance it may be shut down by 2030. Tours of the mine itself are available in the summer months two days a week. Call ahead.

You have a nice view looking back. Nicely captured.
Thanks, Terry. Like a “selfie”, I can see my mug in the window.
Nice job on “The selfie”. It’s almost like you’re in that trailing unit.
