VIA F40PH 6429 in the Home Hardware scheme is seen passing through Bayview Junction on its way from Toronto Union Station to Niagara Falls. This evening train has long been cancelled and more or less been replaced by GO train service. When I took this photo in 1997 the HEP-2 cars were pretty much brand new (to VIA) and became regulars on this train at the time. The 6429 would go on to wear the slime green Telus advertisement before ultimately being rebuilt and repainted into standard Renaissance colors. While my original print came from the "August 1997" folder, I did not note the specific date of the photo, although I remember it being a muggy and warm evening. I had just gotten my Nikon F50 as a gift and took as many pictures as my gas (and film/development/time) budget could afford. Although most photos ended up not turning out (always the fun of shooting film!), I'm glad I did as the equipment that seemed boring and mundane then is now mostly lost to history.

  1. Thats nice. For some strange reason that particular wrap for the most part eluded me.
I wish I could have those days over again. I would have tried harder. :o )

  2. Thanks Arnold- yes I agree, would’ve chased a whole lot more of what seemed “regular” back then too!
