A relic from the past. CN MLW S-3 #8490 is seen past its active days languishing at the end of a storage track in London's Rectory St reclamation yard on a nice warm June day. The whole series, 8400-8498, were gone from the roster by 1975. These units were built between 1951 and 1954.

  1. Wow. That reclamation yard sure has some history. I’d say from the date, this would be one of your first batch of photos, since…you started taking them in March of ’74 (from our previous conversations)?

  2. Yes, Todd. Thats about the size of it. I was shooting slides with an inferior camera back then, as a decent 35MM was quite expensive and there were lots of things needed before I got into hobby extravagance.
Most of the early images were not written up but fortunately with a bit of help from good friends and some recognizable locations I have been able to identify most of the images I took. As I have probably told you and others, back then for the life of me I could not visualize this hobby taking over so much of my world in future years. And I certainly could not ever imagine the internet !! Or RP.
