![Essex Terminal GP9 #108 has 15 loads of whiskey bound for Diageo Distilleries in Amherstburg as the train is about to cross county road 10 just minutes before entering Amherstburg. The day started by collecting interchange cars then heading out to Ojibway yard with a 21 car train. After switching for a couple of hours in Ojibway alongside another yard job, 108 headed south with their 15 cars ready to switch Diageo. Once complete, the crew will head back North to Ojibway, switch local industry and build their train to take to CN and CP for interchange.](http://www.railpictures.ca/wp-content/uploads/2016/11/DSC05563-200x150.jpg)

![After departing Ojibway Yard less than an hour prior, Essex Terminal SW14 #104 has arrived at Amherstburg and is now shoving its train into the Honeywell complex where the crew will switch around for an hour or so before returning to Ojibway to the north in Windsor. Honeywell was idled in the summer of 2014 and as a result, trains to Amherstburg have been diminished significantly with Diageo Distilleries being the sole customer remaining.](http://www.railpictures.ca/wp-content/uploads/2016/11/277-200x150.jpg)

![The Essex Terminal is a railway that hasn't had had vast amounts of coverage on this site, so I thought I'd add to the catalogue. Seen here is ETR 105 pulling 9 tank cars south towards Amherstburg, roughly 15 km south of Windsor. Their destination is about 5 km south of here along Thomas Road, where they will shove their train into the former General Chemical property to reach Honeywell, who manufactured hydrofluoric acid. The crew will drop the last 6 cars at Honeywell then take the first 3 tankers-full of Crown Royal Whiskey from Gimli Manitoba-to Diageo at the southern most point of the railway.
Today Honeywell is closed, shuttering operations in 2013, and this local has been reduced from a daily run to 1-3 trips per week. The ETR has lost a ton of freight over the past 10 years, losing 4 of their largest customers since 2006. There were 5 customers in Amherstburg 10 years ago, now only 1 remains.](http://www.railpictures.ca/wp-content/uploads/2016/04/ETR-aburg-local-15-200x150.jpg)

![CSx local D924 is seen here switching the large elevator in town. Today the local brought in 35 cars, dropped most off here after switching for several hours then ran to Dresden to turn back east to drop 6 cars and lift 2 at Tupperville then dropped a single hopper at another siding in Wallaceburg before continuing back to Sarnia with 3 cars. Such a fascinating operation this was.](http://www.railpictures.ca/wp-content/uploads/2015/11/DSC01399-200x150.jpg)

![A westbound CN mixed freight snakes along the Fraser River in B.C.'s interior bound for Vancouver. CN and CP both have mainlines through this area (this train is on CN, while the CP rails can be seen on the opposite side of the river) with a trackage agreement that allows directional running for 160 miles through the Fraser Canyon-the CN line handles westbound traffic, and the CP line handles eastbound traffic.](http://www.railpictures.ca/wp-content/uploads/2015/08/20-200x150.jpg)
