Caption: A 5 unit CP power move heading westbound over the Galt sub on a hazy late spring morning. The scene is by the old West Toronto diamond, just out of sight on the left. Interesting collection of oldies: Three ALCO S-2 units 7029, 7060, 7043 lead SW1200RS 8146 and last, looking rather impressive against the others, MLW RS-18 8768.The S-2s were gone from the roster by 1986.

Maybe a power move from Parkdale CPR Yard to Lambton diesel shop for servicing – neat picture, look at the manicured grass.
That’s a nice shot ! How did you get the elevation for this one ?
I’m on the old Weston Rd overpass.
IIRC, I remember hearing from someone (the late Ray Kennedy maybe) that CP used to round up all the little Alco/MLW switchers assigned to yard and local switching jobs in the West Toronto and Lambton areas and send them down to John Street roundhouse for weekend inspections and maintenance. John Street was where CP based it’s aging 539-powered switchers for maintenance until they retired and the roundhouse itself closed in the 80′s.
I think the job that handled this may have been the “push job” (that also shuffled GO units to and from Willowbrook for CP to use on weekends).
Interesting, and logic comment. I checked my notes and this image was taken on a Thursday. Seems odd to me because I didn’t often get a Thursday off from work. But since it was all that long ago, I’ll just have to live with the date I entered in my log.
This is most likely the “push engine” called not only to assist over tonnage eastbound trains uphill out of Leaside, but often also to distribute & gather power among yards like Lambton (including West Toronto, Parkdale, and John Street.
