A westbound VIA flies through the tiny village of Ernestown which is just west of Kingston. Unfortunately, this is just another passenger train that doesn't have a scheduled stop at this station. The station in Ernestown is one of the original Grand Trunk stations that can be seen along the Kingston Sub and hasn't been used for passenger service for several years now. It is a designated historic site so hopefully someone will be ambitious enough to restore it in the near future.

  1. Very interesting. As far as your caption goes, Mike, “several years” since it was used probably is more than 50. :o )

  2. Great shot Mike. Sadly, I think this station will just continue to wither away. There has been some interest in restoring it through the years, but CN wants it relocated. And it would take ALOT to move a 100 plus year old station made out of that attractive stone in one move. Only option was that rumoured is to dismantle it brick by brick. And us station guys all know a few stations that never were reassembled as people have stolen the materials.

Arnold…yes, the station has not been used as a passenger stop in over 50 years. However, CN maintenance crews used it until the late 80′s. At that time, the interior was gutted by a fire from a vandal who had broken in, or the crews dropped a hot coal from the old stove that was used…I can’t remember. I will have to someday dig up the article I have from my grandparents, that was written in one of the Napanee newspapers.

  3. Yeah I figured it was somewhere around there. I did some quick research and didn’t find any information pertaining to when it was no longer being used for passenger service so I played it safe lol.

  4. Thanks Todd! It would be nice to see it done up. Would be a good railfanning area and make a nice park. I hope restoration doesn’t mean relocation though.
