As of this posting it is coming up to 40 years since I stopped to get a photo of CN Newmarket Station. And for some reason I cannot recall ever going back. So this is what it used to look like. As if it was an unassuming little structure set out in the countryside. I'm wondering how it looks today. Perhaps someone on this group can give us a rundown on whether it is still in existence, what it is used for, or what happened to it. I'm not really in the mood to drive there to find out:o) Note the dwarfish Globe & Mail "honor" newspaper box. Put your quarter in and take a paper. This is one of the newer models, I notice. It has cement feet. That box wouldn't last a week in todays' world. And ya wonder why us older guys gripe so much about change........nice white walls for graffiti........

    It has been designated an historic building. Not sure what is used for. The Newmarket GO station is across Davis Street. I go by it about once a month but with all the construction on Davis for the new transit way, it is difficult to get near the station.

    As a native of Newmarket, the station (which has now been painted brown – closer to the original Grand Truck colours) is used as the meeting place for the Newmarket Chamber of Commerce. Great shot – it’s such a shame CN was so short sighted on abandoning the line. GO trains are great (not really) – but can’t compare to the long freights that used to rumble through town, which now are a thing of the past.
