As the dry erase marker on the windshield indicates, we were restricted at mile 913 and seem to be waiting at 913 (visible just above the short hood). If memory serves me correctly, there was a foreman patrolling ahead of us who was trying to clear in the backtrack at Needley but was having issues with the switch. This trip began at Fort Nelson (mile 978.8) and would end at Fort St John (mile 728). A fairly long trip when track speed never gets above 25mph.

  2. You were lucky to enjoy 25 mph. When I left Chetwynd in 1975 or 1976 the track speed was 10 mph from Fort Saint John (90 miles) to Beatton the crew change point. The track speed was even worse north of Beatton.
    There was a story during track construction north that a sectionman had had enough of the Roadmaster harrasing them to work harder. The fellow threw a lining bar at the Roadmaster, narrowly missing him and the lining bar fell into the Beatton River. The fellow was fired for “destroying company property”….
