Railpictures.ca - Wayne Shaw Photo: CN ran a Jordan Spreader up the Newmarket Sub from Washago to Huntsville today, first time I’ve seen one in these parts since about 30 years ago when they used to keep one parked at Martins or in Huntsville Yard to use in the area. There wasn’t much for it to do on this part of its run except push back banks a bit more as they were on the heels of a ballast regulator from at least Falkenburg, but it was reported they encountered more snow than expected down south of Bracebridge from the dumping of the other day, so I’m assuming they had to do all the work from Washago to Falkenburg. Nice catch Wayne. How much snow is there? It looks like about 2′ of snow!

Kevin, there’s been at least 6′ fallen so far this winter. Most of that got beat down into really condensed stuff with a crust on it after warmer temps, some sunlight and a couple freezing rain storms. The about 18″ of fresh stuff fell on top of that the other day, just enough that I can walk through the fields or woods with my 18″ arctic snow boots without getting too much inside them – unless I break through that crust under it in which case it’s over my knees by a couple of inches. There doesn’t appear that much here because the spreader was following a couple of hours behind a ballast regulator with a broom which did the brunt of the plowing and cleaned out crossing flangeways on its way up from Falkenburg.
