CN train 508 is seen leaving Regina at the CP controlled location called Creecy. The train is on CN's Ross Industrial Lead which extends from CN's Quappelle Subdivision to Creecy, in a hundred or so feet it will join the track in the foreground which is CP's Indian Head Subdivision. From there it will almost immediately branch off onto CP's Tyvan Subdivision for 2.6 mile before entering CN's Glenavon Subdivision where it will travel another 70 miles (mostly at 10mph) to spot it's 25 empties at Kegworth SK. Up front are CN 5373 and 5351. The 5373 was originally built as MP 806 in 1973, while the 5351 was built in 1980. Also worth noting is the large white dome in the distance at left. This is Mosaic Stadium, home of the Saskatchewan Roughriders and it is a little over 9km from where I stood to take this photo.

  1. Matt, what a fascinating picture. Talk about “flat prairie “, seeing the dome of the new Regina football stadium 9 kms away ! There is something so nostalgic about this scene, a couple of 40+ year old 5500’s ambling along with a string of mixed grain cars on jointed rail (compare that with CP’s CWR). The 5351 looks like it has fresh paint on its nose. Also, a very informative caption, was wondering how CN accessed their Glenavon Sub. Thank you for posting, John

  2. Awesome leader. Great photo Matt.
