Former C&O 5242 now on PSTR, sitting capped down by the Port Stanley station. I believe this unit was acquired in 1985, and was on the property for a number of years. The SW9 I never did see in operation and wonder when it ran. PSTR offered its' first train rides in 1985, and became chartered in 1987. Last I had heard of this unit was that it was leased to the OSR for operation at the Clarkson refinery about 1994. It's history from day one at PSTR to its current whereabouts I would be very interested in knowing............

  1. Wow, I’ve never seen a shot of it looking so good! I’ve also never seen a photo of it in service. I believe it’s stored on the OSR at Salford now.

  2. Mr. Smith: I have been informed that perhaps this unit never did see any service, being too heavy for the PSTRs light rail. I was also told the strange paint scheme is a result of PSTR volunteers “doing their thing” so to speak. It IS rather spiffy looking. :o )

  3. It did see service at PSTR. This unit has been severely cannibalized to the point where I don’t think it will ever run again. It is currently in the rip track at Salford.

  4. I believe it’s stored in Mount Elgin. It’s not at Salford.

  5. And still a hint of the Ches-C in the red.

Chessie System is an underrated paint scheme.
