Going back close to a decade in time: a warm Saturday Afternoon in June of 2011 finds a kid and a train. Yes that’s ME! I had just turned 11 years old at this time and this photo was taken by my dad. Train happened to be GEXR 431 heading home westbound after it’s daily run to MacMillian Yard to interchange freight with CN and the lead unit was FEC 709 which was leased to GEXR from the Florida East Coast for just a little more than 2 years and during that time it very often found on trains 432/431. I was video recording the train as well with my good old Flipvideo Camcorder on my tripod and my fingers were ever so slightly over my ears as this was still a couple months before the older Brampton Diamond got replaced with the quieter type- where only trains traveling along the lesser used Owen Sub rode up and over the rails causing just a slight booming noise since Owen Sub trains are restricted to go no more than 10mph through the Downtown bit of Brampton and big heavy freights traveling fast along the Halton stayed on their own seemless rails. The noise the speeding trains along the Halton made while crossing the diamond before it got replaced was just ‘a little’ sensitive to my ears at first during this time but wasn’t too hard to get used to after the big heavy engines went by. I always sort of missed the welcoming boom-boom as well ever since the new diamond went in but at least I got the memories to hand on to! This also happens to be my 100th image up here on Railpictures.ca!
